My goal is to be self employed by Christmas/New Year. I hear alot of people telling me that they don’t like using ReWire.

I use Ableton as my main Host, along with a bunch of plugins with a bunch of midi gear. Sometimes I like to fire up Reason for some of the patches it has when I can’t get the right kinda thing going in Ableton though and I do that using ReWire. I’ve never had any trouble with it so I’m wondering if perhaps it’s just that people find it a little complex to set up and get working?

I don’t know if the way I do it is the way your supposed to do it, or if there even is a hard and fast “right” way of doing it, but it works perfectly well for me. If people are having trouble getting it working, I’d be up for recording a video of how to get it going. Would people watch it if I did?

Been working on this today. This is a small part of what I’ve got down. I’ve been trying to get that first half of the lead bit down. I love Steve Vai and wanted to do some instrumental shit like that. The solo at the end of Cryin’ Machine is played as if it were two guitarists. Same tone, same guitar, but it’s recorded in sections, with the panning of the channels swapping from left to right and back for each part.

The Left side comes in first and is played in real time, I ended up doing 58 takes. It’s surprisingly hard to play that and keep the surrounding strings quiet when your playing with such a high gain amp at 140 BPM.

The Right side comes in second and is played at 100 and sped up. It’s pretty obvious that it’s not real time, but that’s fine, I’m learning the riff I played there and re-recording it in real time. I find it pretty hard to come up with fast-paced licks when stuff going as fast as that, so I just slow the track down, record myself dicking about, then listening back and picking out the best bits, then putting them together and recording them in real time.

Anyway, enough rambles, gimme some feedback pleasums.
